The JDK is a development environment for building applications, and components using the Java programming language. The JDK includes tools useful for developing and testing programs written in the Java.
In the past, Oracle used to publish an executable installers for Windows that would: Unpack files; Add registry keys indicating the installed version and path; Add the JRE to the system PATH; Register an uninstaller with Windows. As of Java 11, the Oracle's free version of Java (Oracle OpenJDK) doesn't seem to include an installer.

I dowloaded jdk 11, actually jdk-11.0.1windows-x64bin and installed it. It did not come with jre 11 and I did not see jre 11 at the Oracle download site. Now, I am not able to run codes compiled with jdk 11. Download the file jdk-11.interim.update.patchwindows-x64bin.exe. Running the JDK Installer You must have administrator privilege to install the JDK on Microsoft Windows. To run the JDK installer: Start the JDK 11 installer by double-clicking the installer's icon or file name in the download location.

I suppose I am required to install jre 11, but where can I find an authentic copy of jre 11?

They have stopped supplying a separate JRE, but it is included in the JDK anyway. The problem you have got is probably caused by retaining an old (?Java10) version of the JRE in your PATH. That is why you shoiuld always write the Java® PATH entry at the beginning of your PATH.
Please show us your PATH and the results of the following two instructions at the command line/terminal:-

The first line says OracleJavaPath. Investigate that carefully; you may find a Java10 JRE in there. Move your Java11 PATH entry to the beginning of the PATH.

Oracle 11g is installed in the computer. There is no JRE in the path OracleJavaPath.

There is java.exe in the path OracleJavaPath.
Windows chooses this executable when you invoke java in the console.
Move your jdk11 path to the top.

The JDK and the JRE have minimum processor, disk space, and memory requirements for 64-bit Windows platform.

Before installing the JDK or the JRE on your 64-bit Windows platform, you must verify that it meets the following minimum processor, disk space, and memory requirements.

Processor Requirements

Both the JDK and JRE require at minimum a Pentium 2 266 MHz processor.

Disk Space Requirements

For JDK 10, you are given the option of installing the following features:

Development Tools
Source Code
Public Java Runtime Environment

When you install 64-bit JDK, then 64-bit public JRE also gets installed. The following table provides the disk requirements for the installed features:

Source Code	54.2 MB

JRE	Installed Image
Public Java Runtime Environment	200 MB
Java Update	2 MB

Memory Requirements

On Windows 64-bit operating systems, the Java runtime requires a minimum of 128 MB of memory.

Note:

The minimum physical RAM is required to run graphically based applications. More RAM is recommended for applets running within a browser using the Java Plug-in. Running with less memory may cause disk swapping, which has a severe effect on performance. Very large programs may require more RAM for adequate performance.
